Caerfai Farm now using 100% renewable energy.

As you may or may not know, Caerfai, for many years (40, give or take), has been using renewable energy systems. However, there was a time in the long distant past when dad (Wyn) was told by the bank manager; when enquiring into a possible loan to fund an anaerobic digester,  to “go find out more information”.  He did, and now there isn’t a month that goes by that doesn’t yield at least one email from a Phd student requesting help with their research as they’d heard “he was a bit of an expert”.

From humble (and frankly smelly beginnings: slurry digester) things progressed. Today he has just informed me that Caerfai Farm is now run on 100% renewable energy sources. “What does that actually mean?”, I hear you ask. Well it means all electricity used on our farm, the campsite, the holiday cottages, farm shop and cheese making comes from 100% renewable sources, including home produced; from photo voltaic cells and our wind turbine.  Additional heating for the cottages comes from solar thermal and log burning stoves.  Additional heating for the campsite showers comes from biomas, solar thermal and a heat pump. We even have few electric car charge points around the place so if you come to stay at Caerfai know that your electric car will have a point to plug in, so all you have to do is relax. See the zap map link for more information. https://www.zap-map.com/live/#y=51.54121/x=-4.77631/z=9
